Hoolimata ilmaennustusest, mis lubas külma ja lumetut talve, on terve Eestimaa kaetud paksu lumekihiga. Nii juba kolm nädalat ja sulamimärke veel pole. Oleme vahepeal trotsinud -25 külmakraadi, lumetuisused päevad on vaheldunud päikeseküllastega ja nõnda on maha sadanud ligi 50 cm kiht. Aga enne kõike seda, detsembris, kudusin ja pildistasin üles maavillased kindad, millel käivad sõrmeotsad lahti. Peale tikkisin spiraalsed lilled. Kinnastest sai emale jõulukingitus. Hetkel on mul jälle imeilus lõng varrastel ja varsti-varsti saan näidata, millega hetkel ametis olen. Nüüd aga lähen kerin end kerra ja loen paar peatükki põnevat ajaviitekirjandust.

Despite the weather forecast which promised a cold and snowless winter, there is a thick snow blanket on our whole country. It's been like that for three weeks straight and there are no signs of melting yet. We have defied minus 25 degree cold already, the blizzardy days have been alternating with sunny days and a 50cm layer of snow has fallen down. Before all that, in December, I knitted and photographed mittens with removable finger cover made from woolen yearn. I crocheted spirally flowers on them. The mittens made a great christmast present for my mom. At the moment there is a beautiful yarn on the needles again and soon I can show you what I am working on. But for now I will go and make myself cozy in bed with an exciting piece of literature.

2016. algus tõi käredad miinuskraadid ja koheva lumevaiba! Lõpuks ometi tuli tali meie õuele :) Uue aasta alguses tegime oma esimese matka Keila-Joa pargis RMK loodusrajal. -12 kraadi ehmatas alguses päris ära, aga otsustasime mitte alla anda ja tee lõpuni käia.
Viltisin ja tikkisin õele jõuludeks poti-kannu-soojendaja. Kudusin spetsiaalse lõngaga lõpptulemusest 1,5 korda suurema mütsi moodi toru ja lasin pesumasinal kogu viltimise ära teha. Kindlaks sooviks oli tikkida kollaseid lilli, sirvisin veidi L.Kirstu "Muhu tikandit" ja leidsingi kullerkupud. Tikkimine ei ole veel minu tugevaim külg...aga sellegipoolest naudin igat nõelapistet :)

The beginning of 2016 brought us icy weather and fluffy snow carpet! Finally it's winter :) We went for a little hike on the Keila-Joa RMK nature trail - minus 12 degrees startled at first but we decided not to give in and walked the whole trail.
I felted and embroidered a pot-and-can-warmer for my sister's Christmas present. I knitted hat shaped thingy that was 1.5 times the size of the final result with a special yarn. I had a certain wish to crochet yellow flowers so I browsed through "Muhu embroidery" by L. Kirst and found globeflowers. Embroidering is not my strong side yet..but nevertheless I enjoy each stitch :)

Detsember on olnud pidustusterohke! Enne kui kiirustame vana-aasta lõpu peole sõprade juures näitan veel mõnda jõulukingitust. Heegeldasin linasest köögirätikutele kenad äärepitsid, kasutasin 1,5 suuruses heegelnõela ja puuvillast iirisniiti. Tulemus on armas ja leiab kindlasti koha kingisaajate köögis :) Nüüd aga veel mõned kiired asjatoimetused ja aastavahetus võib saabuda. Meeleolukat aasta lõppu!!!

December has been festive! Before we rush to the New Year's Eve party at our friends place I will show just a few more Christmas presents. I crocheted laces on linen kitchen towels by using a size 1,5 crochet needle and a woolen iris thread. The result is lovely and will surely find a place in the kitchen of those who got them :) But now just a few more rapid errands to run and new year can arrive. Have a spirited New Year's Eve!

Detsembri alguses otsustasin, et teen see aasta jõulukaardid ise. Leidsin ühest vahvast paberipoest toredaid vanaaegseid pilte ja jõuluteemalist paberit ja nõnda inspiratsioon tabaski mind. Meisterdasin 3D jõulukuule ka lastega koolis ja need tulid tõeliselt ilusad välja, seega otsustasin ise ka proovida. Nüüd on kõik kaardid juba heade sõpradeni jõudnud ja meie pühade tervitused kohale viinud :) 

Käisime nädalavahetusel Paljassaare kaitsealal jalutamas, oli haruldaselt päikseline ilm aga loodus on murtud ja väsinud. Nii väga oleks vaja paksu lumekihti, et saabuks rahu ja talvine puhkus. 

Täna algas õpetajate talvepuhkus, veel mõned read tikkida ja pisut koristada ning jõulud võivad tulla.

At the beginning of December I decided to make the christmas cards myself this year. I found some nice vintage pictures and christmasy paper at a great paper shop and that's how the inspiration struck me. We also crafted 3D christmas balls with the kids at school and they turned out beautiful so I decided to give it a shot. By now all the cards have reached our great friends and so the season's greetings have been delivered :) 

We also went for a walk at the Paljassaare reserve, it was uncommonly sunny but nature is broken and tired. A thick snow would be useful for some peace of mind and winter vacation.

Today was the first day of teachers' winter holidays. Just a few more rows of embroidering and a bit of house cleaning to go and christmas can arrive.

Detsember on olnud täis planeerimist, ettevalmistusi ja vahvaid jõulukohtumisi. Kogu sagimise vahel nii koolis kui kodus püüan ikka seda erilist aega nautida, sest jõulud mööduvad alati nii märkamatult kiiresti. Viimasel ajal on palju sadanud, ent valgest lumevaibast võime ainult unistada , miinukraade ei tule ega tule.  Käisime Tallinna ja Helsinki vanalinnas jõuluturgu ja -tulesid vaatamas ning kingitusi otsimas. Tore on see, et pimeduses paistavadki tulukesed veel eredamad.
Oktoobrikuus käisin õppimas klapiga märkimku tegema ja sattusin nende tegemisest kergelt sõltuvusse. Sõbranna soolaleivapeoks valmis üks ääretult naiselik ja romantiline "Kohvitüdrukute" retseptiraamat ning mul on tunne, et see ei jää viimaseks.

December has been full of planning, preparations and cool christmas meetings. Occasionally, when I'm not on full throttle at home or at school, I try to enjoy this special time, because christmas will always be over in a blink of an eye. It has been raining a lot lately and one can only dream of a fluffy white snow carpet - the minus degrees just won't come. We went to christmas market in Tallinn and Helsinki to buy gifts and to see the christmas lights. It's really splendid that the lights look bright in the dark.
In october I went to a workshop where I learned how to make a notebook with a flap and got addicted. I made a really feminine and romantic "Coffee Girls" recipe book for a friend's housewarming party and I feel it won't be the last one.

Käes on toimetusterohke jõulueelne aeg, palju külaskäike, kingituste meisterdamisi, pakkimisi, kontserte, pidusid. Eelmisel nädalavahetusel käisin katsikul, kuhu sai kaasa võetud  kõige muu kõrval ka heegelkõristi, mis hakkab vaikselt mu firmamärgiks kujunema. Ostsin hiljuti juurde mitu tokki puuvillast lõnga, et neid muudkui veel ja veel juurde toota, sest beebide seas on kõristi suur hitt :)
Plusskraadid ja soe hilissügis ei lase talvel tulla, terve Eesti on lumeootuses. Nii väga tahakas sellesse lõputusse pimedusse natuke valgust.

It's a busy pre-Christmas time filled with lots of visits, crafting gifts, wrapping, concerts, parties. Last weekend I went to a babyshower where I brought the crochet-rattle alongside everything else. It's slowly becoming my trademark. I recently bought some cotton yarn to produce more and more of these cuties, because the babies really like them :) The plus degrees and warm late autumn won't let winter arrive. The whole country is waiting for snow. I really long for a ray of light into this endless darkness.
