August on mu lemmikkuu! Marjad on valmis ja ideedest puudust ei tule, kuidas neid hoidistada. Tegin talveks vaarika-, mustsõsta- ja kirsilikööri. Nädalavahetusel käisime veel metsas ja korjasime mustikaid. Pooled sõime niisama piima, kohupiima ja pannkookide sees ja teisest poolest keetsin koos maasikatega moosi. Mõni nädal tagasi keetsin kirsimoosi ja nüüd ootab veel  ämbritäis tikreid, neid hakkan täna purkidesse pistma.  Juuli lõpus olime nädala Võrus ja seal  tegime selle aasta esimese kukeseene kastme ja sõime värskelt vurritaud mett.
Kudusin ka ühed pitsilised sokid villasest lõngast, mustri leidsin nagu ikka Käsitööst. Erilised on need sokid veel selle poolest, et kudusin tavalise kanna asemel seekord nn "kogemata kontsa".  Suure tõenäosusega lähevad need ühele kallile inimesele kingituseks :)
Ja nüüd on aeg randa minna, sest lõpuks ometi on Eestis  kuuma 30 kraadi, ei saa seda imelist olukorda raisata :)

August is my favorite month! The berries are ready and I have plenty of ideas of preserving them. I made raspberry, blackberry and cherry liqueur. At the weekend we went into the forest and picked some blueberries. We ate half of them with milk, curd and pancakes and the other half I made into strawberry-blueberry jam. A few weeks ago I cooked cherry jam and now I have a bucketful of gooseberries waiting to be jarred today. At the end of July we were in Võru for one week and cooked a chanterelle sauce for the first time this year. We also had freshly centrifuged honey.
I knitted laced socks out of woolen yarn. The pattern came from Käsitöö, as usually. These socks are special, because this time I used different heel pattern (short-row-heel). There's a great possibility they will become a present for a dear person :)
Now it's time to go to the beach, because there is finally 30 degrees outside and it should not go to waste :)

Juuni keskskel käisime kahepäevasel jalgrattamatkal, mis on aastatega traditsiooniks muutunud. Sel aastal sõitsime Oandust Aegviitu, mis on kokku ligi 90 km. Hoolimata sellest, et ilmaga meil väga ei vedanud (sadas pidevalt), oli see tõeliselt kaunis retk läbi väga erinevate pinnavormide. Meie teele jäid rohelusest pakatavad iidsed metsad ja rabad, armsad talumajad, tihnikud ja lagedad aasad ning pikalt laiuvad voored. Plaan on mõnel järgmisel korral jätkata matka Aegviidust ja liikuda Ikla suunas, et Eesti oleks risti-põiki avastatud ja läbi sõidetud :)
Vahepeal otsustasin oma lõngakogusid vähendada ja kudusin triibusokid, mille materjaliks 100% villane lõng. Olen teinud ka 3 kg maasika toormoosi ja iga päev ühe kilo maasikaid niisama ära söönud. Käes on selle aasta Eesti maasika viimased päevad ja isu tuleb korralikult täis süüa ;)

In mid-June we went on a two day bike trip, which has become pretty much traditional for us over the years. This time we biked from Oandu to Aegviidu, altogether about 90km. Despite the bad weather (lots of rain) it was a beautiful trip through different landscapes. There were ancient green forests and bogs, lovely farmhouses, thickets, bare meadows and long drumlins. We are planning to continue the journey from Aegviidu to Ikla some other time, so that we could discover our country more :)
Meanwhile I decided to reduce my yarn collection and knitted striped socks, made of 100% woolen yarn. I also made 3 kg of fresh strawberry jam and also have eaten a kg of berries every day. The last days of Estonian strawberries are here and we must fill our appetite :)

Eestimaal on suvi käes, päevad on ülipikad ja pimedaks öösel ei lähegi. Sellel ajal on siin hoopis teine olemine, inimesed on rõõmsad ja õnnelikud ja pidevalt tahaks kuskil midagi toimetada ja võimalikult kaua õues viibida. Nautida suve täiel rinnal! Kogu puhkus on veel ees ja me oleme sinna igasugu erinevaid üritusi planeerinud :)
Avasime kontserdihooaja Haapsalu kuursaalis Lexsoul Dancemachine'i esinemisega ja käisime Käsmu kaptenite külas Lennat ja Vaikot kuulamas. Tõeliselt kaunis elamus! Viimaste koolitööde kõrvalt heegeldasin kiiresti katsikukingi, roosad tennispapud, mille idee leidsin Käsitööst. Nüüd aga vaja teha veel viimased ettevalmistused enne suurt matka :)

It's summer in Estonia, days are super long and it doesn't get dark at nights. It's a different vibe, people are happy and there is a non-stop urge to do stuff and stay out as long as possible. Got to enjoy summer to the max! We got the whole vacation ahead of us and we have made lots of different plans :)
We opened the concert season at Haapsalu kuursaal with Lexsoul Dancemachine live performance and went to Käsmu to see Lenna and Vaiko. A beautiful experience! At the same time next to the last school works I crocheted a pair of tiny pink sneakers for a baby shower, for which I got the idea from Käsitöö. But now we have to make some last preparations before the great bicycle tour :)

Juuli on saabunud aga ilm ikka veel pigem sügisene või siis varakevadine - külm ja vihmane. Millal küll suvi saabub? Piltidel on kastanipuu õied (Castanea ) ja pidulaud, mida kaunistab feta-spinati quiche, minu lemmikud pojengid (Paeoniaceae) ning peedi-naadi pasta.
Saabus ka minu kaua oodatud pakike Kanadast! Oi aga rõõm oli suur kui see lõpuks kohal oli :) Seal oli imepehme latte toonides ja spetsiaalselt minule kedratud alpaka lõng, inuiitide tee, vahtrasiirupi täidisega sokolaadikommid ja Yanic'i enda käsitööna valminud lapitehnikas tassialus, millel on kujutatud Kanada roosi. Nii vahva on saada pakki ja mida kaugemalt see tuleb seda erilisem see tundub :) Olen väga rahul, et sellisest vahetusest osa võtsin ja võimaluse korral teen seda veelgi :) Aitäh veelkord, Yanic :)

July has arrived but the weather is still rather autumn- or springlike - cold and rainy. Oh, when will the summer arrive..? On the pictures there are chestnut (Castanea) blossoms and a party table with feta-spinach quiche, my favourite peonies (Paeoniaceae) and beet-ground elder pasta decorating it.
Also, my long-awaited snail-mail from Canada arrived! Oh the joy when it was finally here :) There were wonderfully soft alpaca yarn hand spun especially for me, teas crafted by Inuits, maple-cream stuffed chocolates, and hand-crafted by Yanic herself a quilted "mug rug" with a picture of a Canadian wild rose on it. It was so great to receive a package and the farther it's from, the more special it feels :) I am very happy to have taken part in such wonderful exchange and if possible, would do it again :) Thank you again, Yanic :)

Juuni alguses õitsesid kõik kaunimad valgeõielised suvekuulutajad: harilik toomingas ( Prunus padus ), harilik maikelluke ( Convallaria majalis ) ja aed-õunapuu ( Malus domestica ).
Sellel ajal võtsin ka osa toredast pakivahetusest: A butterfly in my hair blogis toimus aadressite vahetus ja pakivahetuse teemaks oli "Oma maa/riik". Minu vahetuspartneriks sai loosi tahtel Yanic Kanadast. Nüüd, kui kindlalt tean, et tal minu üllatus käes, siis näitan ka oma blogis, mida toredat talle saatsin Eestist. Yanic kajastas meie vahetust ka oma blogis FamilyFaithFoodFabric. Tõeliselt tore oli sellisest aktsioonist osa võtta, killukest Eestit tutvustada ja veidi lähemalt tuttavaks saada inimesega, kes elab hoopis teisel pool maakera :) Oma pakki ma veel ootan, põnevus on suur! Nüüd aga kiirustame Võidupüha tähistama :)

In the beginning of June the prettiest white petal harbingers of summer were blooming: bird cherry ( Prunus padus ), lily of the valley ( Convallaria majalis ) and apple tree ( Malus domestica ).
During that time I also took part of a great snail-mail exchange by A butterfly in my hair blog and the theme was "From YOUR country". My exchange-partner was Yanic from Canada. Now that I'm sure she got the package I can show what she received from Estonia. Yanic also reflected our exchange in her blog FamilyFaithFoodFabric. It was really great to take part of this swap, to introduce a tiny piece of Estonia and to become acquainted with the people living on the other side of our planet :) I'm still waiting with excitement for my package to arrive! But now we have to hurry to celebrate Victory Day!

Mai möödus kui linnutiivul! Selle aja sees sain tehtud autojuhiload, ajanud pulmaasju, nautinud kuuma +35C kraadist nädalavahetust ja käinud ujumas, külmetanud +6C kraadi ja vihmaga, pidanud maha sünnipäevanädala ning andnud viimased tunnid koolis. Fotod on paraku kuu aega vanad, tehtud maikuu alguses, ent ma ei raatsinud seda õidepuhkemisaega ainult endale hoida ja pidin jagama igat punga ja õrna rohekirmet. Viimasel fotol on näha minu viimaseaja aeganõudvam käsitöö: laulupeolastele linasest kangast seljakottide õmblemine, et kõik vajalik pudi-padi saaks rahvarõivastega sobivas märsis kaasa!

May passed in a blink of an eye! Nevertheless during the time I got my driver's license done, planned the wedding, enjoyed the +35C heat, went swimming, almost froze in the +6C rain, celebrated birthdays and gave last lessons at school this year. The photos are taken a month ago at the beginning of May, but I decided not to keep the pictures of the blossoming time to myself and had to share the greenery. On the last photo one can see my most recent and time consuming handicraft: sewing linen backpacks for the song festival participators so that they can bring all the necessary bric-a-brac in a bag that matches their folk costumes!
